To our residents, families, and team members:
Thank you all for your patience and persistence, for adapting and adjusting. Thank you to each resilient resident, dedicated team member, and understanding loved one. Thank you for your acts of kindness that continue to nurture body, mind, and spirit at our communities. Thank you, Anthology Family. On the eve of Thanksgiving week, we have much to be thankful for.
As we enter the holidays, Anthology leadership is balancing a sense of anticipation and celebration with a sense of stewardship and caution. It is no surprise that with autumn come yearly concerns such as flu season, on top of pandemic-related considerations. So, during the holidays, in locales that permit residents to visit with family outside the community, I ask that you pay special attention to the safety protocols for your visits communicated by each Executive Director. For residents who will celebrate in-house at our communities, your presence will enhance the festivities and we will do our utmost to bring you a cheerful and joyous season.
An update on our COVID-19 status across our communities: Among 1,392 residents, we have 13 cases, a rate of less than one percent. Among team members, we have 18 cases, mostly detected through proactive testing. The count changes daily as individuals retest negative in short order or after their quarantine period, and each individual case is carefully monitored.
I point you to a study recently published in The Journals of Gerontology on the benefits of social-engagement on brain health, part of a growing body of research with similar findings. Compelling data like this reinforces the core of our mission. Anthology Senior Living is committed to fostering cognitive- and social-engagement within a warm community of peers, in addition to providing a beautiful and secure environment with medical oversight, medication management, and assistance close at hand. I am thankful for our residents who make Anthology their home, and who in turn create the engaging home that is Anthology.
I close with one more expression of gratitude. This month, many Anthology communities marked Veterans Day with moving ceremonies. I salute every military veteran and service member among our residents, families, and team members for your service to us and our country. Thanks, and thanks, and ever thanks.
